Some more Sassanid Cavalry

Just a quick shot of a few cavalry bases that I have been working on over the past two months.

There are four units of Clibinari armed with spears and bows and two light cavalry bow armed.

Figures are Gripping Beast and Aventine.

Italian Wars Stradiots

My first unit for the Italian Wars in a few years.  These are 4 light cavalry Stradiots using TAG miniatures in 28mm.

The horses have been painted with the oil wipe method as I have used in the past, which I like as it gives good depth to the colour and does not require much thought to get the highlights and shading in the correct places. As it is messy and takes some time to dry, it is not something that I want to do on 4 horses alone so there are another 8 (2 units of light cavalry) mounted crossbowmen that were done at the same time - the crossbowmen need to be painted.

Chance to get the Italian Wars out

Ralph has been painitng a new Polish army for Impetus over the past few months.  All was ready for a game so last Thursday, Ralph and I travelled to Richard's house in the Southern Highlands for a great game.

Ralph had around 800 points and my Italian Wars were the only troops any of us had that came close in period (they are too early) and size of army.

So I got all I had painted out on the table - Landschnecht, Spanish and Italian all together in a conglomerate force.

Unfortunately, the Poles fared as well as all new armies perform ......

3d Printing

I have wanted to get a grand building that I could use in the context of the Italian Wars collection.  I have the wonderful Mirliton sets which I'll post photos of below and wanted to be able to have a place to put a scriptorium in or at different times a grand manor kitchen service a Duke's feast.

I got a 3d printer late last year and have been mainly printing 1/300 stuff for WWII but stumbled upon the Infinite Dimensions site who had a Sciptorium model.  So I paid my money for the files and have been printing it on and off over the past month.

All of the structure is finished - just need to print the doors.  I am very happy with what I have got and think I will be even happier once painted.  I plan on joining the pieces of each floor together so they lift on and off in one piece.

It is very large so don't see it making an appearance often and only then as a centre piece in a town and on the biggest tables.

And these are from Mirliton to go with it.  I realise they are slightly out of period - but I am happy with that.

And from Eureka their orchestra to stand on the balcony and entertain.
