Practice game of Trebbia - Impetus

We are putting on a demo game at an open day that a club to the north of Sydney are hosting in a few weeks.  So yesterday we decided to get what we had out on the table to have a practice game.  It was useful as a way of reviewing what we were missing / needed to paint and trying out the playabilty in the time available.  Consequently there are a few stand-in units on the table.

The game was a closely run thing.  I had the left Carthaginian wing - Mago's ambush was devestating and combined with the power of my medium Cartho / Spanish cavalry we routed the Romans / Italian Allies opposite.  Initially the Cartho centre (mainly Gauls and Spaniards) did better then expected - however as the game played on the Romans came out on top with the Cartahginian centre folding.  On the right flank there was a closely faught battle that was fairly even.  In the end the Romans broke as an army while the Cartahginians were only one more unit from going the same way!

Zama in Mittagong

After we fought out the Renaissance game (on my prior post) on the Saturday a wonderfiul dinner was had in nearby Bowral, proceeded by a few beers and followed by some homemade Limoncello at one of the local lads houses.

We then awoke bright eyed for Sunday and a grand refight of Zama.  The Romans were John's and most of the Carthaginians were mine with a group of light foot Allies from Rex.  I do not remember the order of events and so can't put too much story into the photos.  It was however a great game - took most of  the day - and ended with mutual destruction.

The game was again played with Impetus 2.

Pushing on

Not many Romans in site on the left wing

But a picture doesn't always tell the full story.  While there were almost no Roman foot left on the left wing, just out of shot at the left were a few remianing Numidians (on the Roman side) who had outnumbered the Carthaginian Numidians 2 to 1 and eventually won the tussle and were free to roam and shoot javelins at what Carthaginina foot I had left.  You can however see the victorious elephants returning from their carnage through the Roman middle.  But on the right flank it was another story with the Romans well in the ascendency.

A great day and weekend's gaming.

A gathering and a game

There has been some easing of restrictions in NSW. So a few of us got together this weekend for a meal and game.   Four of us met on Saturday for a few drinks, very nice dinner and humorous game of Impetus 2 after dinner (and drinks).

Next day a few others joined for a few more games.  After playing Basic Impetus for a number of years we were very keen for a return to the full rules with Impetus 2.  So more as a learning experience we put quite a bit out on the table .....

We gathered at a friend’s house in the Southern Highlands of NSW - an absolutely beautiful area at any time - but especially in Autumn.  A view out from the back of his house.

New Carthaginian army gets out

These guys were painted over June and July and made their debut at the Impetus Wintercon outing. They did pretty well.

They are mostly Crusader figures with the Veterans being  from Aventine and the elephant from A&A miniatures.
