Huns on the field

John and I played a few games at the club in Goulburn last weekend.  Two games of 350 points Impetus.  John brought his Normans and I had the Huns.

Results were evenly split - one game each.  Both games were a lot of fun.

The mat is one that I won at the Impetus comp in Cancon in January.  It was generously donated by Campaign Books and Games Logistics http://www.campaignbooksandgameslogistics.com/

Close ups of new Impetus bases

These are the new bases done for the Impetus comp at Goulbourn a month ago.  This is the first time I have had the camera out so sorry they took a while.

Performed very well as well - three wins and a defeat (well a drubbing - thanks Tarty :) )

I've been told the standard is way too late for these guys - oh well ... it does look nice!

And the camp bases was upgraded with much more scenic material, fallen amphora and kitchen supplies on the table / bench.

Goulburn Impetus comp

Ten of us had a great weekend of Impetus at Goulburn.  Only got photos of my boys on the field in the first game.

And finally the camp / baggage base which is a must in Impetus.

They performed pretty well - getting me a second place in only my second Impetus outing (got the wooden spoon last comp!!)

Needed a few more Huns

Have a tournament on next weekend and changed my lists around a bit from last time.  As a consequence I need two more Foot stands - hence the 24 foot troops.

Also taking the opportunity to change some of the existing stands so that the Generals are part of the stands, and have some more things to add to the camp scene that did not get finished last time.

Someone will also be very relieved to know that I am making a concerted effort to fix all the errors made in the painting of the horses.  I'm sure I'll be informed if I they remain genetically erroneous :)

Just brown undercoat on at the moment - hope to have a lot of paint on today and hopefully some better photos very soon.

Three new horsemen to make a command stand and two foot units

First Hun army finished

So most of the army on display.  This is what I fought with over the weekend when they made their debut in an Impetus competition at Cancon - Australia's largest convention.

There were just 8 of us in the Impetus comp and a great time was had by all.

Like all new armies they did not cover themselves in glory - let's just say I won the Encouragement award.

The army is from the Impetus beta lists is made up of Huns and some Goth allies.

There are two more pieces that I used on the weekend but need to do a bit more to - one because of injury and one to add a few more items to the baggage base.

The Huns on the Field

The Huns had their first outing on the weekend.  They played in an Impetus comp at Cancon - wonderful two days with a great bunch of guys.  While I have continued to attend Cancon each year, this is the first competition I have been in there in over 25 years - the last was microarmour.

Anyway, only got one photo as I was so engrossed in the games.  I know a few more were taken by various people and if they ever appear I will purloin them (with appropriate attribution of course).

I need to do a little bit of repairing with the glue - one lance and one rider were casualties. Once done, I will get them all out and take a shot or two.

Getting close with the Huns

Less than 48 hours to go until I need to be in the car driving to Cancon where these guys will make their debut.

Since the last photo 12 bases finished.  Just a few more to go and some command figures.  And all the basing to be done.

An overview shot of what is finished and mounted on bases.

And some shots of their allies

Work progresses on the Huns

As many of you will know a deadline makes for hasty work - and the deadline for this 350 point Hun (and allies) army is now less than 2 weeks away - the Australia Day long weekend for the Impetus competition at Cancon.

What you see on the table has really be done in the last 10 days.  So here is progress so far.

Some work to do on the Huns

So this is what a 300 point Hun army for Impetus looks like - especially one that is not finished.

Looks too much foot for a Hun army I hear you say!.

The bags at the back each hold a number of horse and their is a further base of horse being cleaned on the desk at the front.  Don't want to miss out on those nice horse archers being able to swarm around and then evade to I.

I have quite a bit or work to do over the next three weeks and I'm also awaiting some shield transfers from LBMS for the German allies foot.

Finally some Huns done

I know they are not based - but in my excitement at getting some finally finished I wanted to get a photo up.

So first Huns - they were started back in April of this year.  Progress on more should be fairly quick - although I think I might leave basing until I get a few to do.

Hun horses - basecoated waiting for oil rub

These are about half the horses for the Hun army (I'm not going to give accurate numbers incase there are spies about).

Primed and then coloured with various Humbrol emanels to form a good base for the oil rub tomorrow night.

Will do the horses all at once and the riders 12 at a time.

Huns - the beginning

OK, finished off my US armour this evening (pictures to come tomorrow), cleaned the desk down for space and pulled out the recently purchased Huns with some of their Germanic helpers.

These are a mixture of Foundry bought on their last special and Musketeer Miniatures for the Germans.

Bases were ordered from Litko some two weeks ago - but they are still showing on their site as 'In production"

They are going to be painted and based for Impetus using their beta lists from the website.

This is all quite foreign to me as it will be my first Ancients army - but I am loving playing Impetus so wanted to get one.

I am going to attempt quite an aggresive schedule for these - but I am not putting it into writing publicly lest I fall short and have to take stick for not getting it done.
