Hamilcar Glider

Got home this evening and a nice big package was waiting for me from Sanger UK - a vacformed Hamilcar glider

It was nicely wrapped in quite a bit of bubblewarp and thankfully Royal Mail / Australia Post had treated it with due care.

Inside was a large vacformed sheet - must be almost 50cm wingspan.

With various metal parts - axle, wheels, tail wheel and skids.  There is also a clear plastic canopy taped under the vacform.

Some decals that look pretty good.

and an instruction sheet

Never made a vacformed kit before - so looking forward to the challenge.  Also think it will take a bit of modelling as various openings for the clear pieces need to be located and cleanly cut.

Will post photos as I build.

Beginnings of my game cave

Finally.  It was spur of the moment thing 8 years ago when we renovated the house to excavate dirt from under two of the rooms and lay a slab.  Since then, one has become a wine cellar.

In the other I have had a desire to turn it into my own modest space to put a table and store my painted things.  However, this has stayed a storage space - partly because it has a tendency to become an indoor pool when we have heavy sustained rain (once or twice a year).

So today two builders who have been doing some other work for us put in a pit and sump pump in the hope of preventing the water getting in.  All the gurus tell us it should work - but won't know until it pours again.

Anyway, first steps - with lots of work to go.  The room is approx 12 x 12 (feet).  So I am thinking of a 8 * 5 table with a two foot folding extension on it.  Some shelves at the end between the piers to hold buildings and terrain and some shelves covering the storm water pipes to hold painted armies.  Will find some form of cheap carpet to put on the ground so that it is easier on the feet.  Will also need much better lighting.

Ideas / suggestions welcomed.

3rd Marulan Car Boot Sale

Had a great day out in Marulan todays at the the 3rd car boot sale.  Not quite up to a Partizan that I know the UK has on today - but a definite step up on any bring and buy I have seen - people are friendly and take the time to talk to each other, joke and haggle.

Pretty good haul for me.  I picked up:
  • a bunch of modern GHQ russians, french and british and terrain
  • some 15mm Prussian AB Napoleonics (don't know why I did that given that I have 6mm and 28mm)
  • two 1/72nd scale German bunkers from Leva
  • a whole lot of Langton Rennaisance ships and rule set
  • 7 Military Modelling that I did not have (@ 20c a piece)
  • 4 great books (ECW and ACW)
  • last but certainly not least - a Britania 20mm German armed trawler
Also managed to sell a few books and 7 plastic 1/72nd kits.

Here is a link to some photos for those interested

Russian Napoleonics finally

Finally I have managed to get some of the Russian Napoleonics finished and up.  These guys were sitting in one of the bags in the photo that started this blog.

Painting took a long elapsed time because of other distractions - but only 3-4 hours in total.  I also needed to wait until I got a shipment of bases from Litko,  Their custom sized bases are great and I will never need to mark and cut plastic card to base these guys on again.

I will get some of the French that painted years ago out for a photo soon.

Fewer Union Regiments than I intended

Here a few Union regiments just completed.  I have the troops for another 4 regiments sitting here staring at me - but no more flag bearers.  I discovered after starting painting that each regiment had 2 flags and hence I need twice the number painted.  So need to find some one to supply loose bearers that fit with Battlehonours.

That close I can see all the bits I was lazy with and didn'tr paint - or missed.  Damn.

First ECW 28mm finished

So I have finished them today - pretty happy for a first go at 28mm and also ECW.

Although there are som many good examples of painted stuff on the various blogs it is not hard to find good looking colour schemes.

And here they are after the army painter and before any highlighting

And they will need this or they would look pretty silly on the base.
